THE HISTORY AND BEYOND

2005- mid ov 2005 Behind the Walls was by formed by josef Verano (Ozzy) as vox and VincentP.Villareal (Binggoy) bass Together with friends Juniel Gamalo (Drums) Jake (Guitar), Originated in Cebu City, Philippines. The Band were purely playing f*cking old school heavy metal with cover song(s) from Black Sabbath with their own renditions of Children of the Grave, Iron Man, Supernaut and the ever famous Paranoid. The band played aggresive and superb in circulating their music. Later, The Band quickly made name for themselves now known as “40 DIAZ” (Cuarenta Dias) Now the Band is line-up as one of Pure Extreme Metal Band in Cebu and the Pioneers ov Black Metal Music in Cebu City, Phillipines.

2006- the band was struggling for support and there was no exposure for there music then. Due to busy scheds, Jake leaves the band to pursue his own ambition. The band came later to an end. Mid of 2006 (06/06/06) Ozzy meet Schunt and decided to form a band and name it Imperial Resistance. Schunt invite friends from Mindfool to play with the band for UP Gig. After the gig both decided to put up a stable lineup for the band, Ozzy pick’s Binggoy (bass) and Juniel (Drums) to fill in the slots. Due to personal and musical indifferences that is leading to nowhere the party called it quits. Late year of December 2006, Ozzy created Ozzy Production now known as “STORMBLAST PRODUCTION” which aims to promote Cebu Metal Bands to it’s finest! Also, Ozzy & Binggoy decided to reform 40DIAZ and invite friends from college to join the group. Both choose Mon Gucor to play bass and pick Manfred on Drums. The four piece line-up was complete, Band were rehearsing same old cover song(s) but this time they inject more technicality some describe it as “BLACK METAL SABBATH”. Ozzy Produce its 1st Major gig under Ozzy Production entitled “Mi Ultimo Adios: Year end Metal Madness” held at LA MER Café (RIP) December 30, 2006

2007- everything had started and the seed they planted has fully grown. It was the beginning to an end for Religious Patriarchy as the band became more suppressive and aggressive more technical and known to be more evil. The band was invited and played its 1st Major appearance in C.E.M.P’s Sinulog Event Nights of the Apocalypse (Jan 2007) together with Cebu’s Extreme Metal Band(s) Comatose, Demise, Astarus, Kasakit, Stallions of the Burning Church and other underground bands. With guest from Bacolod’s Onslaughter and Dumagete’s Cookie Monster. it was also a night were Ozzy share stage with Rudix (vox-cookie monster) in performing the songs Powerslave (Dimmu Borgir version) and Progenies of the Great Apocalypse. The band took inspirations and influence from Polish epic black metal kings BEHEMOTH. Also, the band recieve invitations from other productions like Harikiri Mosh (Mirza & Shax),CCHIM (Marco of Hatemail) and Southern Artists United (SAU). 40DIAZ became one of the roosters for CEBU EXTREME MUSIC PRODUCTION (CEMP) Joining Comatose, Demise, Kasakit, Astarus, Agnas, Fallen Anagel, Forgotten Knights, Stallions of the Burning Church and whole lot more from the Underground Scene. The band also Perform in CEMP’S HELLFEST III Day 1(March 2007) with Barang, Hatemail, Burnunit, Devoured Hindrance, Mindfool and more. Without any doubt 2007 was the year for 40DIAZ as Ozzy produce series of metal events held at Zzubu (RIP) and Handuraw for SOUND OV THE UNDERGROUND (April 2007) 40DIAZ played also at ZZUBU METALFEST (may 2007), A BLACK TRIBUTE TO SABBATH (July 2007) CCHIM’s INFESTATION (Oct 2007) and Mindfool and Silhouette Split EP Launch (SEPT 2007) This time with Cebu Metal and HXC Bands. However in tough times we are tested. The Band kicked out drummer due to unprofessional behavior. Meanwhile the band decided to take rest and find time in their studies but Black Metal Music never came to our end as we decided to play one night only for the final chapter of Stormblast Event: RISE OV THE PENTAGRAM. The band took on stage and gear-up but this time under new name “BETRAYAL” with Ozzy, Binggoy, Moon and Itching on Drums (FALLEN ANGEL) Playing Pure Raw Black Metal with Cebu Metal Bands and Guest Streets of May (fresh from new jersey) and Oremuz (Symphonic-Dark Metal from Manila)

2008- Another Year of Madness as band regains its momentum and reunite with former drummer Manfred to Perform in another CEMP Sinulog Event: SCREAMS of ANGUISH (january2008) It was a night of pure extreme, brutal, power pounding, snare grinding and satan screaming. For over years of blasphemy the band decided to pull the strings and explore creativity in search of the New Aeon. Ozzy was looking for a 2nd Guitarist that will help the band maintain its spectrum of strength, someone that its determine that will help the band grow. In METALLICA TRIBUTE EVENT at ZZUBU, Ozzy accidentally saw one band that played rage in stage in the tune of Carcass. There was this Vox/Guitar played very well with an attitude. Ozzy invite Cocoy to join the group and after a week they rehearse and played some couple songs from 40DIAZ Covers. Ozzy also started writting own songs together Binggoy making all the Riffs. The Band is ready for the next attraction as the will be playing at ETELECARE (Feb 2008) organize by House of Indies. 40DIAZ showed in fullforce and energy. It was a night to remember playing in one of biggest callcenter in cebu with Corpse Paint, Shin guards, spikes and armor all hell yells for the kings ov Cebu Black Metal! April of 2008, the band made its second appearance in CEMP’S HELLFEST IV and it was also the last gig we shared the stage with Manfred as he was kicked for the 2nd time with same reason. Summer of 2008 the band almost decide to quit due to unstable drummer. The band is in search for a new drummer, someone that would fit into the musick, someone that we enjoy working with and also with the same musical influence. It took time until we finally decided to choose Tawing of VICRYL2.0 to play drums for us as Sessionist. 40DIAZ explore there other side of creativity in creating their music as they recruit King of Vicryl/Mathet be play keybords also as Sessionist. The band recorded their 1st track in their Symphonic-Epic Black release “The Scorn ov thy Beloved Earth” at ZZUBU Recording mix by Mr. Brian Sarco, this track also appeared in CEMP’s Compilation: Reckoning volume II. Scorn was also remixed an engineered by rata to be sounded more black. 40DIAZ performed at Kasakit’s EP launch “Perpetual Pain” at Club Nuvo (July2008). Also, Sept 2008 CEMP’S Visayan Extreme Underground Compilation. The Reckoning II was Released, Hundred’s of Cebu Extreme Metal Fans gathered to show their support for the album. The only black metal band in cebu joins the Death Metal Scene as they hold the crowd as they scream for their gods. Again the band performs for TILL DEATH DO US PART: Tattoo Competition at Club Nuvo (Oct 2008) under IAM SKARLET PRODUCTION to show support on the Cebuano Tattoo Artist. December 2008, 40DIAZ played in CEMP’s Unsilent Night, Unholy Night but this time without Ozzy. The band played with different motion as Moon played the role as bass/vocals contemplating the sound to be more death/black. An Australian black metal fan came to see the band took videos and pictures as souvenirs. Not only he enjoy the hospitality of the cebuano’s but also Cebu’s Metal Scene as what he describe as devastating. It was a year-end of mayhem as we face a new frontier.

2009- is the year where we set more expectations to ourselves as we look forward for new projects and recordings. 40DIAZ honored Patron Saint of Cebu Sn.Santo Nino as they perform Enslaving the Masses (jan2009) marked as ther3rd year sinulog appearance in CEMP as they enlave the audience. The band was quite for a while as they were focusing writting new songs for upcoming debut to be released this year (tentatively). Sweden base Indie label shows their support to the bands upcoming projects joining ARCHAIC ARGOT (Manila Black Metal) as one of the roosters for SALUTE RECORDS in the Philippines. This year also set the release of SOUTHEASTERN BLACK METAL SUPREMACIST a Compilation of Philippines finest Black Metal scheduled on August (tentative). The bands perform their comeback gig with 13Star Productions “TITANS CLASH” (June 2009). Today, 40DIAZ is hailed as the only pure black metal in the region as they reign its supremacy.
